poem

a jar of dead bugs I found and a tiny "miss me" confection heart
bumble bee, caterpillar and butterfly wings
you have seen my softer side...buttery and soft colors painted on circles and little paintings of birds and deer. those things are made over time and mostly in thoughtful calm times. every once and a while I get hit with inspiration like swift blow to the head (not as painful as it sounds!) I had collected little dead bugs I found and put them in a jar...just, well, I don't know why - but then I found this little heart at a later time and knew where it had to be. a little creepy - but every time I see this little jar it kinda breaks my heart again. I made this in 1998.

painting on old records

acrylic on very old records. several layers of acrylic paint built up to scratch into for a little texture on some of these and some just lots of paint for that chalky dry color I love so much.

Last night I sat on the front porch with a tall glass of iced tea, acrylic paint, brushes, a cool breeze and paper from a 50s magazine - I made these 3 little paintings just for fun.

gate of heaven

Gate of Heaven
This is a piece I made using an old jewelry box, old sheet music, a rubber heart, a very old key hole, a plastic spider, thread and sewing pins. This box is 10 x 10 x 3.5" deep.

drawing with thread

I am working on a series of drawings using thread and sewing. Some by machine and some by hand. Inspired by a conversation with a friend currently working at a wine shop and also inspired by the seedy liquor store in my neighborhood. My favorite part?...giving these dudes stubble. I originally imagined them as a gift bag for wine...that will be the first thing I do with these fellas (and party girls) I just got started so I'm sure other good things will come - and even if this is just for my entertainment and sewing pleasure, by golly - it's totally worth it!

paint and time

I am ready to make time for art. Summer has been great for hanging out on the front porch, drinking iced coffee and drawing on the back of old unpaid bills. I mostly sew these days and love it...and I won't stop - I just miss the natural high I get from painting. I get excited even writing about it.
